ACT Planning & Land Authority Engages Geomatic Technologies for Mapping & Address Verification System
16th November 2006
Melbourne, Australia - Geomatic Technologies today
announced that the ACT Planning and Land Authority (ACTPLA), responsible for
planning in Canberra and the Australian Capital Territory, has selected GT to develop
and implement a Mapping, Address and Routing System. The initial aim of the system is
to provide ACT government departments with a single authoritative source of clean,
verified address data to support the development application process, and other
government business processes, together with online access to spatial data sets.
To be known as ACT MAS, the benefits to the ACT Government in implementing the
system include:
- ACT Property address verification
- Australian (G-NAF) Property address verification
- AMAS approved Postal address verification
- A-spatial location verification
- Statistics of use based on ABS mesh blocks
- Spatial data layer querying
- Maps, images and spatial information available to all
- Process and transaction gains, through pre-population of forms and access to
"place-based" information
- Simple and effective monitoring and managing of system access
Building on ground-breaking technology developed by GT in partnership with the
Victorian Government, the system will include the functionality of the "Victorian Spatial
Smart Tag" – winner of the 2005 Asia-Pacific Spatial Excellence Award and will assist
the ACT in supporting the recently agreed National Address Framework. The
development of ACT MAS is supported by the AusIndustry Regulation Reduction
Incentive Fund (RRIF) and together with other online services, will reduce "red-tape" for
small and home-based businesses dealing with ACTPLA.
Commenting on the decision to implement ACT MAS, Ben Searle, Manager, Information
Services, said, "The standards-based approach of GT will enable us to easily introduce
and integrate advanced spatial functionality into our business systems and to provide the
information needed by the business to minimise errors and improve our land data
management processes. Improved address accuracy will provide considerable benefits
to our customers.
Additionally, this authoritative address web service will be available to support a broad
range of business functions for all other ACT Government agencies, increasing
efficiencies, reducing data errors and, in some instances, fraud and also fast tracking the
ACT’s adherence to the National Address Framework"
